"Wake up!"
I heard an annoying screech and my bed began to bounce. Opening my eyes groggily, there was Liza, jumping on my bed in an attempt to wake me up.
"What the heck?" I snapped at her.
"We have an hour before your dad comes to get you. Danny cleaned the studio. All you have to do is shower and eat the toast I made for you." She said as she jumped off the bed and opened my packed bag and pulled an outfit for me to wear. "Yes, wear this." Liza set the dress aside as she picked matching shoes. "Oh, there's coffee too. Hurry up Ishi!" she pranced through my room.
"Hey, look at me!" I yelled.
"What?" she turned towards me with glistening eyes.
"Come here." I knelt in bed and called her in for an embrace. I knew when she ignored me and just kept ordering me around that she was feeling emotional and wasn't willing to look at me.
"I'm going to miss you like hell!" She muffled her cry on my shoulder.
"You think I won't? I can't even think what I'll do without you." I hugged her even tighter.
"Nothing you can't do without me,Ishi." she spoke as she used her palm to wipe my tears.
"I'll come see you, okay?" I spoke.
"Yes, I'll do the same," she grazed at me before dragging me out of the bed.
We lived in a 2 bhk apartment in Delhi . Danny was usually out for work so I was mostly just me and liza.
I spent a good fifteen minutes brushing my teeth and having a warm shower before heading down for breakfast.
"Good morning, Danny," I said as I sat across from the madly in love couple who couldn't take their eyes off each other.
"Hey Ishi, good morning." Danny got out of his daze. Pouring myself a cup of coffee, Liza passed me a plate of her mouth-watering toast and omlet.
"Gosh I'm going to miss this," I spoke as I took my first bite.
"Yup, which means I'll be waking up to this every day." Danny replied smugly. I stuck my tongue out at him.
"Oh, stop it, you two," Liza joked. "Danny, would you move ishika's bags to the living room please?" She asked. With a quick nod and a peck, he left to grab my bags.
"So, what's the plan as soon as you head home?" I asked.
"Well, something that I've been waiting to do for a while. I want to get married and start my family with Danny, our little baby, running around in our house. I can't wait, Ishi." Her face brightened as she spoke about it.
"Sounds lovely." I smiled at her dreamy expression and began to eat again.
"You are going to be a great doctor, Ishika. I know that for sure. The hospital is going to be glad they have you. So, I'm looking forward to Dr. Ishika Malhotra. " She wiggled her eyebrows.
"I hope so. Dad should be here any minute." I said as I took the plates to the sink.
"Where's my chicoo?" I heard a loud voice echo through the apartment. Recognizing who it was, I sprinted to the living area.
"Dad!" I shouted gleefully and jumped on him, and he caught me as if I weighed nothing. After being squished in my father's arms, he made me stand again.
My parents owned a business. My dad was about 6ft tall and my mum was around my height, which was about 5'3ft. They still made a lovely couple. I haven't seen anyone as much in love with each other as my parents. My dad also runs a armory store in my hometown. My mostly runs the business and is the CEO, dad is the shareholder and helps around when needed.
Bidding farewell to Danny and Liza wasn't easy. She is going back to goa where they both are from while I was leaving for Mumbai. She promised me that she would visit me by the end of next month, and that's something I'll be looking forward to.
We had a two-hour flight and again an hour of drive before we could reach home. Once we loaded the tons of luggage, I had we boarded the plane "you remember Abhimaan right?" dad asked. "Abhimaan Oberoi you friend, right?" "yeah, his son took over the business a few day ago along with the mafia. He is doing great so far." Dad informed.
"Greater than Abhimaan uncle?" I was taken aback. The last time I was in the town, abhimaan uncle was in charge, and he was a strong yet kind man. "Oh yes! He is definitely greater than his dad. He's already formed an alliance with the Silver group." He spoke proudly. "Though the man isn't as friendly as his father." He added. Dad and Abhimaan uncle are childhood friends, Abhimanyu and I used to be friends too in childhood, but I guess we grew apart. I used to have a huge crush on him as well. All I know is that he works in Canada.
"Wow," I replied, wondering how it was going to be.
After a long nap, I woke up to be welcomed by the tall buildings, crowded roads and sea alongside.
"We're almost home, darling!" dad smiled.
Finally, we were met with the large gates that took us into the front yard. I signed in relief; I couldn't wait to see mum and that I was only a few minutes away from her.
I let out a yawn and stretched out.
I was met with a very familiar view. It was my house, the place I was born and raised. The place that holds so many memories and the people I love. As my dad drove into the driveway, the door opened, revealing my mum wearing an apron over her dress. She had the biggest smile on her face.
As soon as the car came to a stop, I jumped out and hugged my mother.
"Mama!"
"Oh, my Ishika, you're back!" She held me at arm's distance, "You've lost weight."
"No, I haven't, but you've got a little chubby mama." I chuckled, kissing her cheeks.
She faked pouted before walking to dad. "Are you tired, honey?" she asked
I pulled mum towards the kitchen.
"I'm hungry."
"I made butter chicken, briyani and rasgulla for my baby." She pulled the bowl out of the fridge. and placed it beside some freshly made naan.
"Hmm, that smells so good." I should be drooling now.
Ishika, freshen up quick. I'll set the table. Mum walked into the dining room.
My walk to my room that held so many memories of my childhood, teenage years and much more. I finally felt relaxed and at peace. I threw myself on the comfy bed and stared at the ceiling with a smile on my face. It's going to be a new start, a new step in life, and I'll make sure that I shine in this career that I've worked so hard for with no distractions.
